Captain’s Message

In just a few weeks the Silver Machine will dust itself down, start its old engine and slip smoothly into gear for the start of another season. The first game is scheduled for Saturday 10th October, although we may have a “friendly” against the 2nds on Saturday 3rd October. [The fixture list is on the blog] so get your priorities set and I hope to see as many of you as possible each week.

Thanks to our new all weather surface, we have had the opportunity to train and play during the summer, and the omens look good… Trevor demonstrating the usual safe pair of hands, Andreas a rock in defence (even against some of the younger opposition we have faced), Russell perfecting the timing of those late tackles and Alan looking like he could add another slipper to the fireside collection.

Of course, looking back, last season was an incredibly successful one, only three defeats, and the Nishiumi Cup and Interport trophies secured. Let’s see what this season brings, but in particular it would be great to put one over on Kobe in their own toxic sandpit, give the teachers a lesson in the Scholars Cup, and show the 2nds that we are a match for them on the pitch as well as in the bar.

This season I have the responsibility of stepping into Sadao’s boots as Captain, not an easy task, and I will try to uphold the team principles that Sadao established. If there is one thing that I would like to capture from last season and repeat it is the fantastic team spirit, togetherness and never say die attitude that we demonstrated in many games and at the social events throughout the season.

We have lost a number of players during the summer, and sadly may be without Dennis and Thorstein due to injury, so please turn up when you can, and if you know of any other people who may be interested (except holding midfielders), please bring them along.

Here’s to another fun season.
